Good day all
There was a report last week, on some social media platforms, of a persons rifle been stolen out their vehicle while they were downrange attending to their targets.
We can’t comment on this as there is no futher information pertaining to:
Which range it was
Who was involved
When it took place
How the incident took place
And the investigation is still ongoing.
We can however use it as a learning experience.
Luckily all our members know not to leave there firearm unattended on the bench or in a vehicle when attending to targets down range. You bag it and you take it with you.
The Firearm Control Act also states that if the firearm is not under your control, it needs to be in a safe (not in your vehicle).
A Section 102 hearing may be brought against a person and if found guilty, will lose all firearms and competencies for a number of years.
There where also comments made about they have a handgun for those instances
Section 120(6) of the criminal procedures sct states…..
Pointing a firearm or airgun, whether it is loaded or not, whether it can be fired or not without good reason ( only private or self defence). You may spend up to 10yrs in jail.
If a person takes your rifle off the bench, while you are downrange, it is theft and no direct attack on you. You may not engage as it is theft of property.
We request that you all take this as a learning experience.
Please be vigilant and safe.
Happy shooting
